When will an override be necessary:
1) If a teacher wants to check out a reference book
2) If a teacher has a blocked account and wants to check out another item. They can contact Tammy Poquette at ude.nialpmahc|etteuqopt#ude.nialpmahc|etteuqopt, if they need to keep the item longer.
3) If a teacher needs to check out more than 5 media items.
4) If a student has a blocked account or billed book and wants to checkout a reserve item. Please make sure to let the student know that the item needs to be returned, before he or she can check out any books, laptop, headphones, or portable DVD player.
When should I not override an account:
1) If a student has a blocked account and wants to check out a book, laptop, headphones, or portable DVD player.
2) If a neighbor or alumni wants to check out a laptop, media items, portable DVD player or headphones. Both patron types are only allowed to check out books.
3) If a faculty or staff member wants to check out a laptop. Only students can check out laptops.
Billed Books & Laptop Check Out
If a student wants to check out a book or a laptop, make sure to check to see if the student's account is blocked, before overriding it. You can tell that the student's account is block, because the "Check-Out Items" field is red. I do not allow anyone who has a billed book to check out a laptop or library book, until the book is returned. This is the fastest way to get the billed book back.
Overriding a Student's Account - Exceptions
If a student wants to check out a reserve item, you can override the account. However, please let the student know about the billed item. Also, let the student know that he or she will not be allowed to check out anything but the reserves, until the book(s) is returned.
