How Are The Children's Books Located On The 3rd Floor Arranged?
  • Picture Books: These books have the word PICT on the top of the call number. These groups of books are shelved by author and THEN BY TITLE (not just author). For example, books by Eric Carle should be alphabetical within the author's name.
  • Folk, Fair Tales & Nursery Rhymes as well as Collected Works: These books will be after the picture books, but before the chapter books. Each group will begin with the four letter destination (FOLK & COLL).
  • Chapter Books: The chapter books have the word CHAP on the top of the call number. These groups books are to be shelved by author and THEN BY TITLE (not just author).
  • Non-fiction: last but not least is the non-fiction. This group is shelved using the Library of Congress (LOC) call number order, just like the rest of the library book collection.
  • Oversized Children’s Books: These are the "Big" or oversized children’s big books are located in a wooden cart on the floor near the wooden display case on the 3rd floor.
  • The Caldecott & Newbury award winning books: These books are shelved in the wooden display case area on the third floor. The books are arranged by the date they won the award. These books cannot be check out.
  • Children’s Reference Book: The children’s reference section is located upstairs on the third floor in the wooden display case area. These books cannot be check out.
