Do Neighbors Of The College Get Borrowing Privileges?

How to get a Champlain College Neighbor ID
If someone is a neighbor of the college they may contact the President's Office at 802-860-2733 to inquire about borrowing privileges in the library. If granted, these patrons will be issued a Champlain College Neighbor ID which must be presented when they wish to borrow library materials.

Using their ID card
Neighbors are responsible for all items charged to their card. Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately to the Library. All neighbors are advised not to loan their cards to others or to loan materials that have been charged to their accounts. Since there is only one card per family, neighbors should bring additional family member’s information to the circulation desk so we can note who will have borrowing privileges for each account. Library privileges only include borrowing books from New Books, Main Stacks, Children’s Collection, and Teaching and Learning. Questions about library borrowing may be directed to the Manager of Circulation at (802) 865-6489.

Loan Periods
Neighbors may take out a maximum of five items at any given time, with a circulation period of two weeks. Neighbors who have reached their item maximum will be unable to check out further materials. Items may be renewed by physically bringing the book into the library. If the book does not have a hold on it, the person may borrow it for an additional two weeks. Books are subject to recall, so that high-demand items may be accessible to the largest number of patrons. Neighbors receiving a recall notice should return the requested items within 3 days.

Renewals and Overdues
Neighbors are responsible for returning or renewing all items charged to their account on or before the date on which they are due. Neighbors who have overdue items charged to their account will be unable to borrow any books until the overdue item is returned or renewed. While the Library will make reasonable efforts to contact patrons with overdue materials, it is the responsibility of the patron to know when materials are due and to return them promptly. The Library does not charge fines per day for overdue books, however, if a Neighbor has any overdue items, their borrowing privileges are revoked until the items are returned. Any books not returned or renewed on time are considered lost and the amount of the full replacement cost for each item will be billed, unless the item is returned or renewed. The replacement cost for books is $75.00 per item.
