Checking In Library Materials

All returned library materials (books, journals, dvds/vhs, course reserves) must be checked in using the library automated system. These materials are generally returned to the circulation desk, but patrons may return some items to one of the library book drops. There is an indoor book drop is located in front of the circulation desk and an outdoor book drop located on the south side of the building.

Reserves:

  • open Millennium
  • click Check-In located on the left side bar
  • scan the bar code on the book - the record will change so that you can see the bar code, the patron’s name, the amount due, and status
  • return item to the Reserve shelves located under the desk top where the Reference Librarian sits

General Collection and Reference:

  • open Millennium
  • click Check-In located on the left side bar
  • scan the bar code on the book - the record will change so that you can see the bar code, the patron’s name, the amount due, and status
  • sensitize the book using the sensitizer/desensitizer located between the two computers at the front desk - be sure the switch is in the IN position; a red light verifies that the book is sensitized
  • put the book on the re-shelving cart

Periodicals

  • sensitize the periodical using the sensitizer/desensitizer located between the two computers at the front desk - be sure the switch is in the IN position; a red light verifies that the book is sensitized
  • fill in a Faculty & Staff Borrowing Form
  • re-shelve the magazine

Videos and DVDs:

  • check in these items the same as you would for books BUT
  • DO NOT sensitize the videos as it will erase them
  • DVDs can be sensitized
  • put them on the re-shelving cart
